Numerical and Experimental Study of AlSi Coating Effect on Nugget Size Growth in Resistance Spot Welding of Hot-Stamped Boron Steels

In recent years, increasing automotive safety by improving crashworthiness has been a focal point in the industry, employing high-strength steel such as press hardenable (PHS). addition to improved strength of individual parts body vehicle, resistance-spot-welded joints these is highly important obtain safe structure. general, dimensions weld nuggets are regarded one criteria for quality spot-welded joints. presented research, three-dimensional axisymmetric finite element model developed predict nugget formation resistance spot welding (RSW) two types PHS: uncoated and AlSi-coated 1.8 mm boron after hot stamping. A fully coupled electro-thermo-mechanical analysis was conducted using commercial software package Abaqus. The FE predicted development compared with experimental results. computed sizes show good agreement values.
